Digital Health - Understanding the Application of Technology in Modern Healthcare
Course delivery consists of a mixture of remote (or online) and in-person (or face-to-face) activities on campus.

This course qualifies for a 50% subsidy under the HCI Fees Subsidy.

This micro-credential will be relevant to any multi-professional staff working in healthcare design and delivery across all grades and all services. This cohort includes nurses, midwives, paramedics and other allied healthcare professionals.
This micro-credential allows healthcare professionals to understand the application of digital health technology. One example is the adoption of the electronic patient records. The content is varied; therefore, you will learn to develop a critical understanding of digital health that will allow to prepare and apply the knowledge to a real-world problem.
The course addresses all five domains, as set out in All-Ireland Nursing and Midwifery Digital Health Capability Framework, 2021.

How will this Micro-credential be delivered?
This micro-credential is delivered using a blended learning approach (in-person/online):
- Lectures will be delivered in 2 in-person days and 3 online days (full day).
- Online lectures will be available live or as pre-recorded sessions.
What you'll learn
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:
- Have a systematic understanding of relevant national and international policies connected to digital health.
- Critically discuss the data lifecycle and its application to real-world examples, such as electronic patient records (EPR).
- Analyse and critically appraise the application of digital health to person-centred, safe, and connected care.
- Demonstrate the appropriate application of digital health for a healthcare setting.
Freda Neill is the Clinical Skills Manager in the School of Nursing and Midwifery where her primary responsibilities include leading the clinical skills teaching team, developing the clinical teaching components of the undergraduate nursing curriculum and supporting the clinical tutors teaching in the practice areas.
From 2001 to 2007 Freda was the Project Manager for the Transition of Pre-registration Nursing and Midwifery into the college. In 2018 after an initial project of 3 years the Trinity Simulation Suite was opened. Currently we run courses in clinical simulation for all disciplines in our school and schools within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
In 2020 she was the lead person who set up the Contact Tracing Center in the Business school in TCD along with volunteers from the Faculty of Health Sciences, the HSE and volunteers from a variety of other services.
Sinead Impey is a Research Assistant in the School of Nursing and Midwifery with a background in nursing and health informatics.
Her research focus is understanding to what extent can ICT support nurses working in a community of practice to capture their knowledge mindful of 'Everything' that could be a barrier.
Sinead involved in the ADAPT project that is developing a Patient Data Platform (PDP).
Requirements
- Level 8 degree in healthcare related programme. Or satisfy the course committee that they have the ability to successfully complete the MC programme based on evidence of the following: experience working in any healthcare setting and engaging with digital health systems.
- Up to date CV required.
HCI Fees Subsidy
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria may qualify for a 50% fee subsidy, subject to the availability of subsidized places.
