Regular physical activity is integral for our health and is considered one of the most modifiable risk factors of chronic non-communicable disease (NCD). To combat the current trend of inactivity and the prevalence of chronic disease, essential knowledge of the principles behind physical activity promotion and exercise prescription and their associated health benefits is required among practicing healthcare professionals (HCPs). Equally important is understanding how to implement these lifestyle changes in a sustainable manner to empower individuals to adopt active lives. The Advancing Healthcare: Exercise Prescription micro-credential is designed to upskill HCPs in their understanding of safe, effective, evidence-based exercise prescription. This includes understanding when the prescription of exercise is safe and appropriate, and identifying when medical reviews are necessary for individuals deemed at risk of having an adverse experience from physically exercising. The micro-credential will prepare learners to conduct screening, risk stratification, and appropriate health and functional assessments prior to creating evidence-based exercise programmes. Nutrition is fundamental to our physical and mental health, and wellbeing. The Advancing Healthcare: Optimising Nutrition micro-credential will introduce healthcare professionals (HCPS) to key, evidenced-based, nutrition concepts across the lifespan. It will enhance knowledge and ability to provide safe, basic nutritional advice and awareness about screening and referrals in situations requiring more specialist interventions. In Ireland, it is estimated that one quarter of the population are affected by cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic disease, with two thirds of the population living with overweight or obesity. Globally, a poor diet is one of the leading risk factors for preventable diseases. Most non-nutrition HCPs will come into contact with individuals and groups requiring guidance on optimal nutrition and/or cases requiring clinical nutrition input. HCPs will also play a key role in implementing and embedding integrated care programmes across the health services. This micro-credential will allow the learner to advance their knowledge of nutritional care to complement other approaches in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease and their complications. The learner will also develop skills that can support individuals to make meaningful dietary changes in their lives.

Allergens can contaminate food product and the production environment at and any stage from preparation to storage and/or distribution and hence the food chain.This module will examine the classification of allergens in food, the physiological effects of allergens in the body and the spectrum of response, the legislation and control measures that should be taken to protect the consumer, identification of allergens in foods and the development of products formulated with specific dietary requirement, and with product development that considers more sustainable non-allergenic ingredients.
